Miami, FL, May 5, 2026 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site pediatric primary care organization that is setting a new standard in pediatric care delivery and is dedicated to providing equitable access to care, today announced the acquisition of an additional location in the Westchester neighborhood of Miami-Dade County. With population growth in the area on a steady upward trend since 2022, Pediatrica is expanding access to care to meet the community’s needs. For over 40 years, Dr. Juan Ruiz-Unger has delivered compassionate, evidence-based care to Westchester families. Recognizing the need to keep pace with growth and evolve to continue providing children and families with the best possible care, Dr. Ruiz-Unger was eager to work with Pediatrica.
Dr. Juan Ruiz-Unger delivering Next Generation Care SM…
A fixture in the community, Dr. Ruiz-Unger has provided trusted care to families for decades. Thoughtful and compassionate in his approach, he has always had his own way of meeting people where they are in their family’s care journey. From ensuring parents feel like they have a true partner in their child’s wellness at well-child checks, one-off sick visits or navigating chronic concerns, to welcoming underserved families with kids with special needs – Dr. Ruiz-Unger has been there for generations of families. He has also devoted an immeasurable amount of personal time and care to ensure the next generation continues to receive the top-quality care by mentoring numerous medical students over the years. It is this kind of passion and foresight that made him the perfect partner for Pediatrica.
Relieving administrative burdens means more time with patients and helping even more patients, including those on Medicaid…
“Dr. Ruiz-Unger was already thinking ahead, anticipating the needs of families in his care and the community, all while keeping an eye on the future of pediatrics,” commented Roberto Palenzuela, Pediatrica Health Group CEO. “Adept at delivering exceptional care, he recognized that to continue making an impactful change for kids, he could not do it alone. Pediatrica is delighted to be that partner for Dr. Ruiz-Unger and his team.”
Supported by a full back-office team and new technology, the practice staff are relieved of administrative burdens, freeing them up to spend more time on patient care and, better yet, welcome even more patients, including those on Medicaid. To meet the growing needs in the community, this change has also enabled the Westchester location to add an additional incredible provider to the practice, Javier Torres Hernandez, APRN. Javier’s 30 years of medical experience and shared passion for pediatrics make him the ideal addition to this team and this community.

Miami, FL, February 3, 2026 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the acquisition of an additional location in Miami Lakes. This latest acquisition strengthens Pediatrica’s commitment to provide accessible, quality care across the state and beyond, and supports the Miami Lakes community as the practice’s founder, Dr. Ruth Schobel, prepares to retire after more than 41 years supporting local families.
Dr. Ruth Schobel – an exemplary pediatrician and a leader in the community…
After decades of practicing from the same location in Miami Lakes, Dr. Schobel has had the honor of supporting multiple generations of families over the years. She has built lifelong, trusted relationships with families through her thoughtful, compassionate approach to evidence-based care. Additionally, she is notorious in the community for giving her time and passion, including supporting schools with wellness and safety talks, volunteering on the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board, and she continues to be an active member of the Zonta Club of Miami Lakes, an organization dedicated to improving the circumstances of women at all stages of life. Dr. Schobel’s commitment to improving outcomes and well-being for all simply cannot be ignored. So much so, that this past year, the town of Miami Lakes named one of the roadways Dr. Ruth Schobel Way to honor her invaluable contributions.
“Leaning into community investment…medical education and resources, and creating opportunities for youth and family-focused organizations to help kids thrive. It’s what families deserve…”
Dr. Merryl Dweck, who has worked alongside Dr. Schobel for many years, continues to care for families at the practice with the warmth, experience, and fervor the office is known for, and a new addition to the team, Dr. Rosemary Prince, has been welcomed with open arms by Miami Lakes parents and kids. This expansion to the team ensures the office can continue to operate at full capacity and welcome even more families. “No one can replace Dr. Schobel. She has invested a lifetime to build a trusted, genuine brand, the kind that is only built from experience, integrity, and kindness. What we can do is carry on the tradition of delivering intentional evidence-based care and contributing to the community as she has through her many years of tenacious leadership and advocacy,” commented Pediatrica Health Group CEO, Roberto Palenzuela. “Next Generation CareSM means supporting the communities we serve. Not only opening our doors to all families, including those on Medicaid, but leaning into community investment, supporting with medical education and resources, as well as creating opportunities for youth and family-focused organizations to help kids thrive. It’s what families deserve – Dr. Schobel has proven the value of that investment to the community in spades.”

Miami & South Daytona, FL, December 9, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the official opening of a new location in South Daytona. This new practice supports a community that has felt a profound loss since the passing of Dr. Amar Singh almost two years ago, a well-respected pediatrician who supported families in the South Daytona region for nearly two decades. Located in the same space where Dr. Singh once practiced, Pediatrica of South Daytona offers relief to parents and caregivers, providing accessible Next Generation CareSM and resources to support the community.
An overwhelming community response puts the practice on course to expand care well before the first anniversary of operations in South Daytona…
The practice began offering care with a soft opening in October of this year, and the response from the community has been overwhelming. Now fully staffed and resourced, Dr. Anabella Torres and William Crosby, APRN, have been welcomed with open arms by families. With over 25 years of experience between them, news of their compassionate and gentle approach to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care is spreading quickly. So much so that the practice is set to onboard an additional provider in the new year to accommodate continued accessible care for all families.
“Keeping care accessible, accepting Medicaid, and investing in youth in the communities we serve are just some of the ways Pediatrica rounds out the wellness picture through Next Generation CareSM.”
“We knew we had big shoes to fill when we chose to open in South Daytona. No one could truly replace Dr. Singh’s legacy. Instead, our aim is to continue building on the good work he started,” commented Pediatrica Health Group CEO, Roberto Palenzuela. “Innovative care from passionate providers who are well-resourced with teams and technology, allowing them to focus on providing the best care possible. Keeping care accessible by working with community partners, accepting Medicaid, and investing in youth in the communities we serve are just some of the ways Pediatrica rounds out the wellness picture through Next Generation CareSM.”
Stay tuned for news of a grand opening event and open house in collaboration with community partners in the new year, as well as the announcement of a new provider for the South Daytona practice.

Miami & St. Johns, FL, November 4, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Tuka Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Anas Al Yazji. In acquiring this practice, Pediatrica not only ensures continuity of care for this St. Johns community as Dr. Yazji relocated abroad, but also opens the door for growth and expanded accessibility. Welcoming new professionals to the team and upgrading resources and technology supports the Julington location to increase capacity and extend the Next Generation CareSM experience to all families.
“We are helping to set kids up for healthier futures with every interaction… we are better equipped to continue delivering compassionate, evidence-based care…”
As a part of the Julington community for almost a decade, families have come to rely on the care team they have built trusted relationships with over the years. A vital member of this team with over a decade of experience is Alexandra Jackson, APRN, who has been a pillar at the practice since joining it. “Welcoming families to each visit, really getting to know them, and watching their children grow and thrive is an incredible feeling – knowing we are helping to set kids up for healthier futures with every interaction,” commented Jackson. “Now, with more resources and a larger team, we are better equipped to continue delivering compassionate evidence-based care, and we have the capacity to welcome even more families to our care community.”
Pediatric mental health…Dr. Laughrey brings a unique combination of skills to the practice, addressing a growing need among youth.
The latest addition to the team is Dr. Marisa Laughrey, who brings years of experience to the practice and a bright energy that radiates. Recognized by families in her care with countless five-star reviews, her approach to pediatric medicine is what moved her to the top of the candidate list. Understanding the need to see the whole picture to support wellness, a visit with Dr. Laughrey goes beyond a typical pediatric primary care visit and may also include mental health support. Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with experience facilitating pediatric mental health clinics to address depression and anxiety, Dr. Laughrey brings a unique combination of skills to the practice, addressing a growing need among our youth.

Miami & Bradenton, FL, October 7, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Scarano and Taylor Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Joseph Scarano and Dr. Adilia Florentina Taylor. In addition to Pediatrica expanding and creating more opportunities for the Manatee community to access quality care, these providers bring a wealth of experience in the area of clinical research – one of the key tenets of Next Generation CareSM that sets Pediatrica Health Group apart in the pediatric primary care space.
“Next Generation CareSM is a game changer; steadily learning and evolving care to help kids be healthy and grow into healthy adults…”
“More than just an opportunity to grow our footprint, navigating with intention has been an imperative part of the strategy for Pediatrica from day one,” commented Pediatrica CEO, Roberto Palenzuela. “Dr. Taylor and Dr. Scarano have a rich history in clinical research and a passion to continually work toward better outcomes for the families they serve. This is what makes Next Generation CareSM a game changer; steadily learning and evolving care to help kids be healthy and grow into healthy adults.”
This pediatric duo exemplifies this principle. Dr. Taylor has served as a postdoctoral fellow and staff scientist, and she was part of a team conducting groundbreaking cardiopulmonary studies at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in collaboration with researchers from the United States Air Force Wilford Hall Medical Center. She also participated in the development of a novel high-frequency ventilator for premature newborns, has co-authored numerous articles in professional journals, and was principal investigator for a major research grant from the American Heart Association. Additionally, as a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Taylor is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a faculty member of the Florida State University College of Medicine, where she continues to teach medical and physician assistant students.
Dr. Scarano has served as chief of pediatrics at several Florida hospitals and held numerous influential positions within the hospital systems. He, too, is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a faculty member of the Florida State University College of Medicine, where he continues to teach medical and physician assistant students, in addition to presenting medical lectures at regional and national pediatric medical conferences. Specializing in child development, adolescent medicine, psychiatry/behavioral health, nutrition, and fitness, Dr. Scarano has been an active participant in pediatric medical research as a member of Pediatric Research in the Office Setting (PROS), an affiliate of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Paying it forward for generations to come…
Partnering with Pediatrica affords providers like Drs. Scarano and Taylor the time and resources to do what they do best – deliver exceptional care. Relieved of the administrative burdens of running a practice, they have the ability to center their focus on listening, learning, and introducing new best practices to the next generation of providers. A ripple effect that will gift our communities in perpetuity.

Miami & Lakewood Ranch, FL, September 9, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Capote Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Jessica Capote. In acquiring this milestone 10th practice location, Pediatrica is expanding accessible care to serve Sarasota and Manatee counties, supporting even more families with quality, innovative pediatric primary care.
The Next Generation Starts Here…
The acquisition opportunity presented itself when Dr. Capote sought to pursue a longtime career aspiration to teach the next generation of medical students and residents at the University of Florida as they further their education and forge their own way in the field of medicine. After serving community families for over 20 years, Dr. Capote was thoughtful in seeking out Pediatrica for its commitment to patient families and their pursuit to change the face of pediatric primary care through accessibility and innovation – Next Generation CareSM. Holding the families she served over the decades close to her heart, Dr. Capote also hand-selected her replacement, a pediatrician renowned in the community for her dedicated and compassionate care for kids, Dr. Neta Strum. “This community and these families have been my home and my heart for years. As I step into the next chapter of teaching future physicians, it brings me peace and joy to know that Pediatrica and Dr. Strum will nurture the same values of care, compassion, and commitment that have always been at the center of this practice,” noted Dr. Capote.
Welcome, Dr. Neta Strum…
Dr. Strum, with over 20 years of pediatric care experience herself, is an award-winning provider who has been voted Bradenton’s Best Doctor by the community she serves for the last four years and is an active advocate for kids and families. Her commitment to supporting this next generation to achieve their best and healthiest outcomes is evidenced not only in the work she does every day in the practice but also beyond the clinic. Dr. Strum has also dedicated two decades to leading the Reach Out and Read program, promoting early literacy and helping parents nurture a lifelong love of reading.
“From the moment Dr. Strum arrived at the practice, patients and staff were put at ease. It was clear that the legacy of exemplary care Dr. Capote had worked so hard to build in the community would continue with Dr. Strum,” commented Pediatrica CEO, Roberto Palenzuela. “Families are already taking the time to write glowing recommendations about her care and championing her transition to the practice. Dr. Strum and the team know the formula to help this community thrive.”

Miami & Delray Beach, FL, August 12, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Delray Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Marcia Malcolm. Furthering Pediatrica’s reach across the state, this acquisition is a testament to Pediatrica’s commitment to fulfill its purpose to provide equitable access to innovative pediatric primary care. This transaction empowers Dr. Malcolm and her team to increase their capacity and enhance care and resources that are sorely needed in the Delray Beach community.
“…you shouldn’t have to move mountains to access quality health care…”
For over 20 years, Dr. Malcolm has been an advocate for marginalized families in her community. By offering substantially more than just the first call for a sick visit or a milestone check-up for a newborn, Dr. Malcolm recognizes the obstacles that impede access to care for families struggling financially or those who face a language barrier. She has been intentional in her approach – employing a multi-lingual team, welcoming Medicaid families, and she stays up-to-date on clinical research to support the areas of greatest need for her patients, including ADHD, asthma, and autism, to name just a few. “It’s overwhelming enough as a parent to see your child suffering – you shouldn’t have to move mountains to access quality health care. When we help families in need, we help the community to be stronger and healthier, too. That’s good enough reason for me to do things differently,” commented Dr. Malcolm.
This approach to care is one of the many reasons Roberto Palenzuela, Pediatrica Health Group CEO, pursued the acquisition of Delray Pediatrics. “Dr. Malcolm gets it. She recognizes what we recognized early on – by making quality care accessible early in life, we create a ripple effect for generations to come. Next Generation CareSM not only creates healthier communities here and now, but it also has the power to ease the burdens on our healthcare systems for years to come as kids grow into healthy adults. It all starts here,” notes Mr. Palenzuela.
Welcome, Dr. Tayina Gilles…
In related news, making good on Pediatrica’s commitment to increase capacity and welcome more families to their practice, the Delray Beach location has added a new provider to the team, Dr. Tayina Gilles. Combining evidence-based care with a warm, grounded approach, Dr. Gilles is passionate about supporting families through every stage of childhood. Making each visit one where children and families feel safe, understood, and empowered to partner in their care with her, Dr. Gilles values building meaningful relationships that grow right alongside her patients.

Miami & Gainesville, FL, July 15, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Healthy Steps Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Ana Moros-Hanley. With this acquisition, Pediatrica expands its reach across the State of Florida, ensuring comprehensive, quality pediatric primary care is accessible to all families in even more communities.
“…Parents have a choice…we work really hard to make that choice easy…”
Supporting community families for over 20 years, Dr. Moros-Hanley and her team have set high standards for care. Families know they can count on the providers to support them through sick visits, help them navigate chronic illnesses, and set them up for healthy futures through preventative visits and screenings. By listening to and learning about every patient who comes through the door, the Healthy Steps team has built strong relationships and focuses on partnering with families to engage in their child’s care through education and planning, fostering healthy habits.
“By virtue of the time pediatricians invest in a community, there is a certain amount of trust and confidence already established when parents first bring their child to an office. It’s incumbent on us to maintain and continue to build that trust with families. It’s one of the reasons we are thoughtful and thorough in selecting the providers we invite to join us. Practicing evidence-based care, Dr. Moros-Hanley and her team welcome patients to share their concerns without judgment and encourage them to champion their own wellness. We’ll help ease the administrative workload so that teams can focus on care and families can navigate each visit with ease,” commented Roberto Palenzuela, Pediatrica Health Group CEO. “Parents have a choice when it comes to who they trust with their child’s care. We work really hard to make that choice easy,” he concluded.
Caring for more families, including Medicaid-eligible…
Dr. Moros-Hanely’s deliberate approach to care, combined with the opportunity to expand Pediatrica’s footprint into the Gainesville area, made the acquisition of this practice an obvious choice. Bringing the Next Generation CareSM model to the practice and supporting the team with up-to-date technology and a host of administrative resources means Dr. Moros-Hanely and the team will be equipped to care for more families, including those who are Medicaid-eligible.

Miami & Coconut Creek, FL, June 3, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Coconut Creek Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Arif Wajid. With this acquisition, Pediatrica expands into South Florida, making significant progress on its commitment to provide comprehensive pediatric primary care to families across the state and beyond.
“…when providers go beyond the basics, we can create long-term positive impacts for generations to come…”
Dr. Wajid and his team have established lasting relationships with the families in their community – the countless positive reviews speak for themselves. More than top-notch support staff and a friendly bedside manner, Dr. Wajid takes a holistic approach to care. He has exceeded standards by offering services such as new parent education and support for patients and parents to address issues that impede school and social development. Plus, he has dedicated time and expertise to advancing healthy outcomes through participation in pediatric-focused clinical research. “Dr. Wajid’s approach to care mirrors Pediatrica’s Next Generation CareSM model,” notes Pediatrica founder and CEO Roberto Palenzuela, “When providers go beyond the basics, we can create long-term positive impacts for generations to come. Our alignment on this made Coconut Creek Pediatrics an attractive target for acquisition.”
Growing to meet the needs of the community…
Pediatrica is already taking steps to continue building on the foundation of meaningful work Dr. Wajid has established. In addition to a full back-office to support administrative work, the team has also welcomed a new pediatric care provider, Shauvron Langrin, APRN. A parent herself, Shauvron knows first-hand the never-ending worry that comes with the territory. With compassion, she is skilled at putting parents at ease by partnering with these families to support care. Adding more resources and providers to the practice means expanding accessibility to care to the community, including families on Medicaid.

Miami & Palm Coast, FL, May 6, 2025 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Pinnacles Peds Care, owned and operated by Dr. Vincent G. Verdeflor. This acquisition expands Pediatrica’s reach in the region, offering families in a community with limited options for pediatric primary care, greater access to providers and improved care options through Pediatrica’s Next Generation CareSM model.
Ready to Grow…
Dr. Verdeflor has built a thriving practice in his Palm Coast location with a small, but very strong team. Understanding the needs of the community, he had always hoped to expand the practice and bring in more providers to support local families with the same evidence-based, quality care his patient families have come to know and trust. Like many pediatricians, realizing that goal got further away as he prioritized patient care and tried to balance the overwhelming administrative workload of maintaining the practice.
“…making room for more providers to offer the full range of care and family health education I had always hoped for.”
Connecting with Roberto Palenzuela, Pediatrica’s founder and CEO, for the first time was when Dr. Verdeflor recognized that his vision of improved and accessible care was a real possibility. “In the short time since we closed on the acquisition, we’ve already realized incredible gains as a practice. Upgrades to technology and practice infrastructure, staff training, and access to a full back-office team to support administrative work,” commented Verdeflor. “With an eye towards lifting up the community we operate in, plans are already underway for an office expansion that will almost triple our physical space, making room for more providers to offer the full range of care and family health education I had always hoped for,” he continued.
Accessible care for the win…
Like all Pediatrica practices, the Palm Coast location accepts many insurance plans, including Medicaid. “Removing the barriers to access health care for our kids and reduce worry for parents means families have more time and financial resources to allocate where they need it most,” noted Roberto Palenzuela. Pediatrica is committed to building healthier communities together with providers and their teams; moving into Palm Coast is another step in making good on that promise.
