Lactation Support

Healthy beginnings start here…

Early parenthood can be overwhelming, and a clear path to giving your newborn a healthy start isn’t always easy to see. Pediatrica’s provides one-on-one lactation support, in person at select practice locations and by telehealth at every office so every new mom has the support and coaching they need close at hand.

Feeding and routines can sometimes be a challenge, even when you’ve done everything “right”.
We get it. And, we can help.

How Lactation Support Helps…

Pediatrica’s board-certified lactation consultants offer evidence-based care developed in line with American Academy of Pediatrics Breastfeeding-Friendly Pediatric Office Practice guidelines. When to Schedule a Consult

Anytime is the right time to ask for help. Many families find it useful to schedule a consult:

  • In the first days or weeks after birth, to get feeding off to a strong start
  • Anytime latch or feeding feels painful or difficult If you’re worried about milk supply or your baby’s weight gain
  • Before returning to work, to plan for pumping
  • At any point breastfeeding starts to feel harder than expected

What can we help with?

  • Getting a good latch and comfortable positioning
  • Low milk supply or oversupply concerns
  • Nipple pain or soreness
  • Slow weight gain or feeding schedule questions
  • Returning to work or school and building a pumping routine
  • Introducing a bottle or combination feeding
  • Weaning, at whatever pace is right for your family
  • General reassurance and encouragement – no concern is too small

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Pediatrica Lactation Support.

Do I need a referral to schedule a lactation consult?

No referral is needed. Pediatrica families can self-schedule, or your Pediatrica can refer you at a well visit.

Is a telehealth visit as effective as an in-person visit?

Telehealth visits are a great option for many feeding questions, including supply concerns, pumping planning, and general guidance. Additionally, secure, private video visits allow for virtual support with latch or positioning.

What is the cost for a lactation consultation?

How should I prepare for my appointment?

No special preparation is required – just you and your baby. Feel free to plan to feed you baby during the appointment so we can coach and support questions about your current routine.

If you are joining us by telehealth visit, plan to have a comfortable, quiet, private space for you and your baby to be on camera on mobile device or computer. No special equipment is required.
